In addition to the creation of the new storage for collection items, the “Open Depository” project also includes conferences, professional museology seminars and workshops. These activities provide an introduction to the methods and conditions for storing collection items, their restoration and conservation, and also offer professional blogs on the management and protection of collections, as well as other information for the general public.
The conferences are designed not only for the professional public, but also for those who are interested in the methods and conditions of storage of collection items, the situation in museum collection storages in Slovakia and abroad, and their modernisation.
The introductory conference for the project entitled “Museum depository modernisation and conditions for their opening to the broader public” took place online on 23 – 24 March 2021. Apart from the representatives of the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising in Banská Bystrica, the conference had a wide range of participatory contributions from representatives of other institutions: Múzeum Stará Ľubovňa (repr. Dalibor Mikulík) and Slovenské technické múzeum in Košice in Slovakia (repr. Zuzala Šullová); and also from foreign institutions: The Narvik War and Peace Centre in Norway (repr. Eystein Markusson and Ulf Eirik Torgersen) and the Warsaw Rising Museum in Poland (repr. Joanna Lang).
